Penn Environment helps launch "Exxpose Exxon" campaign

In July, PennEnvironment joined with a national coalition of environmental
and public interest groups representing over 5 million citizen members in launching the “Exxpose Exxon” campaign. The coalition encouraged Pennsylvanians to help “Exxpose Exxon” by refusing to buy ExxonMobil products, refusing to invest in ExxonMobil stocks, and refusing to work for ExxonMobil.

Specifically, the coalition cited ExxonMobil’s push to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling and funding organizations that work to discredit the science behind global warming. PennEnvironment held press conferences in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Allentown to launch the campaign. More information on the campaign can be found at www.ExxposeExxon.com.

Reports

In May, PennEnvironment released “America Idles,” a report showing how Pennsylvanians will spend an extra $194 million at the gas pump in 2005 due to the Bush administration not increasing the fuel efficiency standards for cars and light trucks to 40mpg in 2001. The report was released at news conferences in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Allentown, and was covered by news outlets across Pennsylvania.

The report showed that if the Bush administration had taken action in 2001, the U.S. would be consuming 350,000 fewer barrels of oil per day in 2005, and reducing our carbon dioxide emissions by the equivalent of removing over 157,000 vehicles from the road this year.
